Tanzanian champions Young Africans SC (Yanga) have officially announced the termination of their contract with head coach Romain Folz, effective October 18, 2025.

  • Interim Coaching Arrangements
  • Folz’s Exit Follows Silver Strikers Defeat

In a statement released by the club’s Communications Department, Yanga confirmed that the decision was reached mutually by both parties following an internal technical assessment of the team’s performance.

“The decision was made through mutual agreement between both sides after a technical evaluation within the club’s coaching bench,” the statement read in part.

Acknowledgment of Folz’s Contribution

Yanga’s management expressed gratitude to Folz for his contributions during his tenure, particularly his efforts in leading and developing the squad.

The club noted that while his time in charge has now come to an end, it recognizes the positive work he has done in enhancing the team’s competitiveness across various tournaments.

“The leadership of the club thanks Coach Folz for his efforts and achievements during his time with the team and wishes him success in his future endeavours,” the statement added.

Interim Coaching Arrangements

As the search for a new head coach continues, Assistant Coach Patrick Mabedi has been appointed to take charge of the team on an interim basis.

“The duties of leading the team have been handed to Assistant Coach Patrick Mabedi, who will oversee the technical bench temporarily,” Yanga confirmed.

Folz’s Exit Follows Silver Strikers Defeat

The announcement comes just hours after Yanga suffered a 1–0 defeat to Silver Strikers of Malawi in the first leg of the CAF Champions League second preliminary round in Lilongwe.

The loss has left the Dar es Salaam side facing an uphill task ahead of the return leg at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, where they must win by at least two goals to advance to the group stage.

The result intensified scrutiny on Folz, whose team — despite strong domestic form — continued to struggle to replicate that success on the continental stage.
