Simba SC of Tanzania began their CAF Champions League campaign in style with a convincing 3–0 win over Eswatini’s Nsingizini Hotspurs, showing once again why they remain one of the most respected sides in African football.
Under new head coach Dimitar Pantev, the Tanzanian giants looked revitalised — sharp in attack, composed in defence, and tactically superior throughout the match at the Mavuso Sports Centre.
From the first whistle, Simba controlled the tempo, pressing high and moving the ball quickly across the pitch. Their opponents were left chasing shadows for much of the game, unable to deal with the intensity and physical power of the visitors.
The result was more than just a victory; it was a statement that Simba’s continental ambitions remain firmly alive.
Early Control Pays Off Before the Break
The opening half saw both teams pushing forward with purpose, but Simba’s organisation soon took charge of proceedings. Midfielders Neo Maema and Ellie Mpanzu dictated the rhythm with their passing and movement, creating several dangerous moments around the Nsingizini box.
Their patience finally paid off just before halftime. In stoppage time, captain Nelson Nangu rose highest to head home from a pinpoint corner, giving Simba a deserved lead.
It was a goal that reflected their growing confidence — calm, calculated, and perfectly executed. Nsingizini, meanwhile, struggled to test the Tanzanian defence, failing to produce a single effort on target before the interval.
Simba went into the break ahead, looking every bit the better-drilled side.
Second Half: Pantev’s Adjustments Deliver Results
Simba returned from the break with even greater control, and coach Dimitar Pantev’s tactical switches made the difference. His introduction of fresh attackers injected new energy and stretched the Nsingizini backline, creating space for Simba’s forwards to exploit.
The Tanzanian side continued to push forward relentlessly, with quick combinations and width that kept the hosts pinned back in their own half.
The second goal came in the closing stages when Kibu Denis, showing his trademark composure, controlled a well-timed pass and slotted home neatly to double the lead.
Moments later, Denis struck again with another sharp finish following a swift counterattack, completing his brace and sealing the result at 3–0.
It was a clinical second-half display — one that underlined Pantev’s impact and the squad’s growing belief.
A Resounding Statement of Intent
This emphatic away victory not only gives Simba a huge advantage ahead of the return leg in Dar es Salaam but also reinforces their status as a regional powerhouse.
The performance carried echoes of their famous 4–0 win over Mbabane Swallows in 2018 — another reminder of their strength when playing in southern Africa.
Even with first-choice goalkeeper Moussa Camara sidelined through injury, Simba showed impressive depth as his young replacement produced a mature, composed performance to keep a clean sheet.
With renewed confidence, tactical discipline, and attacking sharpness, Simba SC look ready to make a deep run in this season’s CAF Champions League.
The roar of Mnyama has returned — and it’s echoing across the continent.
